Mens 1st XV

The table below shows theresults for the season for the 1st XV. Over time I will try to capture lower XVs but it is a long job – so any help appreciated.

Sadly – very few actual results for this year and just an indication of W/L/D for most, if not all, of the games.

Club Highlights

Jack Woolley took over the Chairmanship of the Club and we see a change in the way the Officers are described. This makes it difficult to do a summary but I will endeavour!

Firstly and simply Derek Hunnisett was appointed a VP and W.G. MacGregor is now missing and so presumed passed. The eagle eyed amongst you will have noticed that WGM was also a Trustee and that rule 4 required there to be a minimum of 3 and maximum of 4 trustees at the Club. Breathe easily as this year’s handbook has a revised rule 4 with now a minimum of 2 trustees required. We wouldn’t want to be unconstitutional would we…

The Committee structure (or to be more precise the Officers as they called them then) changed and I shall use the new layout below and I hope I have all the personnel changes correctly summarised here.

  • Jack Woolley becomes chairman taking over from Dr. C.F. McGuire
  • The role of Club Captain is separated in the list from 1st XV Captain – but Richard Lewis holds both roles getting them back off Larry (Peter) Larman
  • The Captain roles are combined with the Team Secretary roles for the 1s, As and Yeomen and also the Bs – but see below for a name change.
  • The Bs are renamed the Beefeaters
  • The role of Colts and Extra B Team Secretary has gone – quite possibly insufficient interest to make the teams up
  • The role of House and Wine Secretary whilst still existing and still performed by F.A.W. Patching slips out of the Officer’s rankings. Demoted to enlisted men?
  • The same fate befell Social Secretary – although I see from the handbook that a sub committee with one Colin Lucas as Secretary emerged from the ashes of this particular Phoenix.
  • Schools Secretary and Medical Officer seemed to be no longer either. Lack of suitable volunteers?
  • Other playing changes see D.F. Balfour picking up on the vacant 1s VC; Brian Hill become ‘A’s Captain taking over from C.J. Le M Lawrence with J.R. Williams getting VC from P. Claydon; Graham Gordon becomes Yeomen Captain from R.D. Burton and Brian “Dolly” Dearson make a first appearance as Yeomen Vice Captain. Finally, J.P.de l’Orme is Beefeaters’ Captain.
  • The Schools committee also disappeared this year (but does come back in a few years).
