Men’s 1st XV v Horsham 30/08/2008
Away – Friendly
Report by Andy Ward
Drawn 17-17
My clandestine reporter from the game reports a good work out with plenty of players used. Horsham were first off the mark with an interception try and were 5 to the good. Hove came back with a try of their own after a well worked move saw Matt Wilson touch down for Hove’s first points.
Horsham managed to get a further score before half time to see the teams go in with Hove 5 points adrift.
Hove started well in the second half and it wasn’t long before they were on terms with the back row controlling the ball via Ben Sole and then releasing Nick Paddenburg (he of Passport to Lurve fame!) to take the glory and the 5 points.
Hove scored again and the boots came on with the conversion won as well before Horsham reprised Hove’s 7 pointer with one of their own.
Mentions in dispatches for – an excellent defensive performance at times before the changes were made and for Roger Windsor, Jack Baker, Ben Sole and Sam Whiting at 10.
