Men’s 1st XV v Romford & Gidea Park 16/08/2008

Home – Friendly

Report by Andy Ward

Won 19-0

Well, this was a friendly and a lot of those you would expect to be first choice were not around – but nonetheless, it was a decent game.

Three thirds (ridings?) as opposed to two halves with the first score coming from Alex Probyn in the 45th minute from an interception and a 10 metre sprint. Further tries by Ben Sole and Lee Preston in the 65th and 78th minute with 2 conversions from Sam Whiting gave Hove the points.

Our forwards seemed to have a better time than Romford’s – even though they were a size bigger all round. Possibly early season rustiness. Joe Bruin at centre made several straight runs and caused the Romford defence to be on their toes, but they managed to repel his advances generally. Hove were good value for the win, but possibly a tad flattered at 19-0.
