Below are two scans of the centre pages of a programme issues by Brighton FC on 06/04/1960 when the Mayor o Brighton team entertained a Mayor of Hove team in aid of two national charities. You will see that the charity names reflect the social mores of the time and have since been renamed.
You will see some names that you may recognise from Hove in the team lists.
Club Highlights
Another wholesale batch of changes especially in the VP Congregation.
- The Treasurer D. Lyon-Maris gained a “P” and is now listed as P.D. Lyon-Maris
- Fixtures were taken over by J.W.I. Jenkin from T.G. Winckworth
- Team Secretary went to P.E. Savery from J.W.I. Jenkin
- Schools went from K.R. Neal to C.P. Lungley
On the playing side the following moves occurred:
- The Captain of the ‘A’ XV went from E. Perry to Gerry Woodage.
- Vice Captain of the ‘A’ XV was picked up by R.A.H. Davis
- The ‘B’ XV made an appearance this year with A.L. Abrahams as Captain and J. Lyon-Maris (more potatoes?) as Vice
The VP Congregation had the following changes
- Three new VPs
- A.J. Lawrence
- A.L. Lucock
- J.P. Sherwood
- Six missing from the list this year. I would normally say that I presume they had passed but three were only made VPs the previous year so maybe they moved on or resigned or some sort of falling out.
