Playing Highlights
The table below shows theresults for the season for the 1st xv. Over time I will try to capture lower XVs but it is a long job – so any help appreciated. We managed to win more games- 15 – than we lost – 13 this year. So, progress.
You will see from the hand book that this year a “B” team was introduced. The Captain is not listed in the handbook although next year it is Tony Abrahams. I reproduce the below email from Tony

Below we have scans of the menu for the Club Ball. It seems to have been customary to get signatures of the guests – at least that’s what George Fawcett used to do – as this was his menu copy.

The writing on the Twickenham trip photo appears to be: 1959 England vs Scotland Twickenham: Bob the Pole, Bill Powell, George Fawcett, Stephen Boyd, Peter King, Tony Lucock, Chris Hudson, David Baldwin, Pat Trantom, Chris Edwards, Derek Hunnisett, Steve Savery, Cullen(?) Beckwith, Unknown, Henry Sherwood, David Sherwood.
Club Highlights
It was pretty much all change this year with one or two exceptions.
- General Secretary went from J.H.R. Boreham to Ian Stone
- Treasurer went from B.J. Griffiths to D. Lyon-Maris (everytime I see his name I think of those Maris Piper potatoes…)
- Fixture Secretary went from J.E. Rhatigan to T.G. Winckworth
- House and Wine went from J.W.I. Jenkin to F.A.W. Patching
- Schools went from D.G. Boswell to K.R.Neal
- The Assistant Secretary and Treasurer went from Ian Stone to R.W.R. Thomas
- Sussex County Rep went from J.H.R. Boreham to I.C. Stone
- There was no Press Officer – R.F. Clark must have moved on
On the playing side the following moves occurred:
- The Captain of the Club went from T.B.R. Scruby to George Fawcett – and it was George who’s handbook it was for this year that we scanned.
- Vice Captain went from P. King to D. Baldwin
- Captain of ‘A’ XV went from P.E. Savery to E. Perry
- No Vice Captain for the ‘A’s
The VP Congregation had the following changes

- Also, J.H.R. Boreham was made an Honorary Life Vice President (Equivalent to today’s Honorary Life Member)
